Teaching English

I have many years of experience in teaching English. It all started in 2014, when I joined the largest language school in Banská Bystrica, SPEAK. In 2022, after extensive cooperation, I decided to work with private students only.

I am a versatile teacher, experienced in both group and individual teaching, grammar lessons and conversational classes, as well as home tutoring of children. My students range from complete beginners to advanced learners, from 2-year-olds to seniors. Every class is tailored to the student's needs.

In 2016, I successfully passed the CELTA course in Prague, organised by Cambridge University, and I've also been working as a certified Speaking Examiner for Cambridge exams (currently qualified for the levels FCE, CAE, CPE and YLE) for more than six years.

One of the main advantages of having lessons with me is that I spend most of my time surrounded by native speakers of English and I've had more than enough time to "steal" their accent, so you don't have to worry about picking up common pronunciation mistakes, such as saying "sink" instead of "think", "bed" instead of "bad" or "wet" instead of "vet" during our lessons. 🙂

I can also provide you with invaluable advice on self-learning. I've been self-studying Japanese since 2016 and managed to get the N2 certificate (roughly corresponding to the B2 CEFR level) after three and a half years (I currently hold the highest, N1 certificate). I can also currently read and write about 2,300 characters and have no problem getting by in Japan. I don't like when people around me say that I have a "talent for learning languages" because I wouldn't say I owe my success to any kind of talent. Instead, what truly lies behind it is diligence and systematic work. And with the right mindset, anyone can manage that, right?

Conversation lessons

If your goal is to improve your speaking skills, brush up on some basic phrases before a holiday, or impress a colleague from abroad, I'm here to help you! 🙂 The topic of our conversation is entirely up to you (but I can always supply it in case you can't think of anything).

Grammar lessons/tutoring

Are your children struggling with their English lessons? Or have you perhaps decided to move your "functional" English to a higher level and don't know where to begin? Let's get to it! These lessons include working with a textbook (yours or mine) and grammar exercises. And you can expect homework as well!

Preparation for a certificate/final exams/state exams

Are your final exams just round the corner and you still don't know the difference between the past simple and the present perfect? No stress! You can do anything if you set your mind to it. And my arsenal of grammar exercises is there to make it easier. Do expect a lot of homework, since no success is ever for free! 🙂

Group lessons:

If you know anyone who'd like to learn English together with you, don't hesitate to contact me. As a former language school teacher, I have ample experience with group lessons. During these lessons, my primary aim is to make everyone participate in all kinds of speaking activities (role-play, discussions, etc.) and if they're talkative, it can be really great fun!

Online lessons

Not from Banská Bystrica? No problem! Technology is our friend and you'll find me online as well. In the case of online students, I prefer conversation lessons, since I like to have a pen and paper or, even better, a marker and a whiteboard at hand while explaining grammar, which can be a bit tricky over the Internet. But don't worry – I'm always more than happy to answer any grammar questions you might have during the lesson! 🙂

*The lesson price includes travelling fees within the wider centre of Banská Bystrica. In case you want to have the lessons in a café or if you live further away from the centre (e.g., in Kremnička) or outside Banská Bystrica, the price will be increased by an amount agreed before our first lesson.

**The price of group lessons is determined at the beginning of our cooperation and it does not decrease in case one or more students are absent from the class.
